The 2012 Midwest Speed Quest was cancelled due to scheduling issues. Stay tuned for a possible 2013 MSQ!!!
However, we are here to promote this new sport of GPS Speed Sailing. This Site is dedicated to GPS Speed Sailing. The Midwest Speed Quest was created in 2005 in Worthington Minnesota, to promote the concept of recognizing the fastest Windsurfer wearing a handheld GPS while on the water. Speeds are based on the "Fastest Ten Second Interval". Each year we pay the highest CASH Prize Money in North American Speed Sailing to the fastest racer on Lake Okabena. THIS EVENT IS FREE; and even the GPS is provided! Your Speeds will be listed with the fastest sailors in the world on gps-speedsurfing.com! See the “Rankings” Page for the complete list of racers 2005 to 2011. This is a friendly competition designed for beginners to the most experienced Wind Surfer. This is a great opportunity for the newer sailors to learn from the Pros.
In this event, YOU decide when you race. Click on the Weather Forecast button. Pick the windy day that fits your schedule. Just let us know when you are arriving, and we will meet you on the beach with a GPS unit ready to go.
We will also have a number of scheduled Race Days during the season. On these days we will serve a free Hot Lunch and Cold Refreshments on the Beach! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow windsurfers.
Speed Sailing is exciting for Spectators too. Guests are always welcome to mingle with the Windsurfers! Come on down and find out more about Windsurfing. Bring your camera and binoculars too.
We are willing to recognize the following categories if there is sufficient interest (at least 3 applications per category).
